Assessment Summary

Colombia hosts significant gold, copper, and emerald endowment, but the political environment has shifted dramatically against mining since the 2022 election of the Petro government. Permitting for new projects has slowed effectively to a halt, royalty terms have tightened, and the rhetorical environment has been openly anti-extractive.

Operating mines continue and a future government could reset the policy trajectory, but for the current political cycle Colombia is an extremely difficult place to advance development-stage projects.

Jurisdiction risk is one input — geology, capital structure, and management still matter. See the Verdict Framework for full company scorecards.
